Breed: American Eskimo Dog Other Breeds
The American Eskimo Dog, a loving companion, presents a picture of strength and agility, alertness and beauty. He is wonderful with his human family including children. As long as he is near his family he is content. He enjoys cold weather better than warm. Known to clean their faces like cats they are easier to maintain than you may think as their coat easily repels dirt. They have no doggie odor and they are very clean.
Height: 9 - 19 inches. Standard: over 15 and under 19 inches, Miniature: 12 to 15 inches, Tpy: 9 to 12 inches.
Weight: 6 - 35 lbs. Standard: 18 -35 lbs., Miniature: 10 - 20 lbs., Toy: 6 - 10 lbs.
Temperament: Affectionate, obedient. Good with children if properly socialized.
Color(s): All white or biscuit cream.
Grooming: Needs weekly brushing, bathing once a month or as necessary. Pay attention to his teeth and nails.
Coat(s): Stand off straight, double coat with a dense undercoat and a lomger coat of guard hairs.
With Children: Good
With Pets: Good with other pets, especially with other American Eskimos. He enjoys active exercise and roughhousing.
Training: Highly trainability with positive reinforcement.
Exercise: Needs regular exercise and attention.
Health Issues: Hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy.
Housing: The American Eskimo will do okay in an apartment if it is sufficiently exercised. It is very active indoors and a small yard will be sufficient.
