Breed: Bichon Frise Other Breeds
The Bichon Frise (Bichon Frize - "fluffy little dog") is a sweet little dog with a happy-go-lucky attitude and an aim to please. His origins, to date, are still unknown, although most suspect that he has been around since before Christ. Accepted by the AKC in 1972, this dog has a wonderful temperament and makes a great companion.
Height: 9 - 12 in.
Weight: 7 - 12 lbs.
Temperament: Friendly, active, gentle-mannered.
Color(s): White, cream or apricot.
Grooming: Requires daily coat care. Brushing, periodic trimming, regular bathing. Trim around the eyes and ears with blunt nosed scissors. Clean the eyes to prevent staining.
Coat(s): Long and loosely curling.
With Children: Yes, exceptionally good with children.
With Pets: Yes
Training: Easily trainable.
Exercise: Most of their exercise needs can be met with just playing, but they do love to walk and romp in open areas.
Health Issues: No known heritable problems. Some problems with knees, block tear ducts, skin ailments, cataracts and epilepsy.
Housing: Apartment is fine if daily walks are given. An owner of a Bichon should be patient, consistent and be able to take time to train, exercise and socialize him. Bichons do well with the elderly or disabled.
