The
Bloodhound is a powerful dog that stands over more ground
than is usual with hounds of other breeds. He skin is thin
to the touch and extremely lose. He is powerful, yet graceful.
The Bloodhound is good with children and other animals with
his gentle nature. He has a tenancy to drool, but is otherwise
a very clean dog. He has an outstanding ability as a scent
hound, superior to other hound, which has made him very useful
in police investigations.
This dog
is over 1000 years old. It was perfected but not created in
Belgium by the monks of St. Hubert. They were brought to England
later on by the Normans. And eventually was brought to the
United States. They have always been used to hunt but it wasn't
until the 16th century that they were used to track humans. |

| Temperament: |
These
dogs are gentle giants. They are very affection and loving.
They can be very laid back also. This is tempered by their single
mindedness when on the trail. They live for the hunt. They will
spend hours on the trail of some very interesting scent. This
trait is what makes them wonderful trackers. They are also great
with children. However you need to watch them because they will
lay there and let the child climb, poke and prod forever. So
you need to make sure that the dog isn't hurt. He can be very
shy and sensitive so training has to be constant and consistent.
Because he is showy with his affection you have to have breakables
and treasures well above tail level or risk losing them. And
you have to realize that they own you, you don't own them. |
