Strong, muscular, elegant breed; medium to large in size. The cane corso was bred in Italy as a working dog and used for protecting large animals like cattle. Direct ancestor of the old Roman Molossian, used for hunting large wild animals. This dog will not pick a fight with another dog but it will not back down either. Very protective but gentle. Excellent guard dog; highly intelligent and trainable. The name Corso derives from the Latin cohors, which means protector. Breed is impervious to pain so the invisible fence is ineffective as a means of containment.
