The
Hellenikos Ichnilatis, or Greek Harehound, is an ancient breed
indigenous to Greece. For thousands of years the breed roamed
the isolated mountainous regions of Greece had no competition
with other breeds. Because of this it remained virtually
unchanged. Hellenikos was originally used to hunt, track and
chase rabbits. Ancient writers praised the breed and used it for
trade all over the European area now known as the Balkan states.
Descendants of the breed can now be found all over Europe. |

Hellenikos Ichnilatis
is a very intelligent breed. It is friendly, playful and
outgoing but can be impatient. This breed is courageous and had
enough stamina to outlast a wild boar. It knows no boundaries.
Can be stubborn at a young age and matures slowly. Very vocal
and warns of strangers or impending danger. Very loving with
families and loves attention. |
