Breed: Irish Setter Other Breeds

The AKC describes the Irish Setter as "At their best, the lines of the Irish Setter so satisfy in overall balance that artists have termed it the most beautiful of all dogs."

The Irish Setter is part of the sporting group and can trace its origins back to last 18th and 19th century, Ireland. As is the case with many breeds of this time period, the Irish Setters' ancestry is uncertain; however, it is commonly believed that the Irish Setter derives from a spaniel-pointer English and Gordon setter combination.

The feature most associated with the Irish Setter is its stunning red coat. Described as chestnut or mahogany, it is the flowing red coat that enables this breed to stand out in a crowd. The Irish Setter is both a swift moving and mild mannered companion.
