Question: I have a a 7-year-old female/spayed Golden Retriever. There have been no recent changes to her diet and she gets no table scraps. She receives Frontline Plus and Heartguard once a month but no other medication. She is starting to get hard, fibrous, cysts all over her body along with flaky skin, and she's losing her hair. I had the T4 thyroid test, allergy tests and skin scraping performed and they all came back negative. Lately she has started to scratch, and her coat has a weird, almost medicinal smell to it. What is going on? Do you have any ideas?

Answer: Dear Michelle,
Sounds like you have quite a problem on your hands! If I were you, I'd take your dog to a veterinarian. It's possible that she's having something as simple as an allergy or might have something as scary as cancer. If it's something easy like a skin infection, then your vet will prescribe a course of antibiotics for your pal. If it's not a skin infection, the vet will be able to do something more, like a skin scraping or a fine needle aspirate to find out what the lumps are made of.
When in doubt, always check with your vet!

Good luck!!
