It's That "Giving" Time of Year
The holidays are coming - again! The mad rush will soon be on to get this year's hottest toys and that perfect present. I'm reminded of last year when my sister-in-law made the most amazing gesture. She and her husband have two little girls and these little girls have grandparents and aunts and uncles and a lot of people who love them, so needless to say they get many, many Christmas presents.

Trick or Biscuit!
October is here and soon it will be Halloween. Tradition dictates that most children are planning their costumes. But later trends dictate that many pet-owners are planning their dogs' costumes! Many cities, towns, shelters and pet stores hole parades and contests so that pet-owners can get in on the fun of Halloween dress up. So I have decided to talk about some of the best and worst pet costumes that I have seen over the years, and to share a few of my own ideas. By the way, if any of you readers own dog costumes, I would love to see pictures!

Purebred Mutts?
My latest fascination is the trend of mixing breeds and creating what are basically expensive mutts. The earliest manifestation of this trend that I can remember was the Cockapoo, which was a cross between a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel. I understand that in creating these new breeds, people are trying, in most cases, to create the perfect family pet. But I want to know why potential pet owners are paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for dogs that are merely the result of any two dogs sneaking off together for an unauthorized encounter. I can't help thinking, if you want a mixed breed, go to a shelter.

Dental Care Products
You watch your dog chewing a bone that that would probably shatter your own teeth and you have to believe that your dog's teeth are indestructible. Unfortunately, they aren't. Just like people, dogs can contract dental disease and dental care is as important to your dog's health as it is to your's. Your vet can help with dental care but there are a host of products on the market that can help you keep your dog's teeth healthy at home. Home dental care products for dogs fall into three different categories: dental treats and chews, dental toys, and toothpastes and cleansers. Fortunately if your dog can't seem to accept one option you can try another.
