Kuranda Dog Beds

I have a confession to make. My dog, Mickey eats dog beds - every style, every fabric. Now, he might just be taking a stand against the separation of humans and canines – but there are times when that separation is necessary for the harmony and peace of the “pack.” When my husband and I brought his family’s 13-year-old Irish setter, Kayla and her bed into our home, Mickey ate the bed. Thinking of Kayla’s arthritis, I made her a bed out of thick foam with a cover to match my bedroom. Mickey ate it.

Now understand he doesn’t actually eat the beds. He just tears the fabric, pulls out whatever type of stuffing is in it and leaves the poor thing decimated on my bedroom floor. As Kayla’s arthritis worsened, I put our futon mattress on the floor for her. Alas, Mickey spared the futon. I could imagine him saying, “don’t be ridiculous, that’s furniture!” Maybe you can relate to this type of behavior?

Aluminum Bed with Commercial Duty 40 oz Fabric
Perhaps there is a miracle solution in our future! Enter the Kuranda® Dog Bed. The Kuranda® Dog Bed is made by Kuranda USA, located in Annapolis, Maryland. It is available with a frame made of PVC, aluminum, metal or more recently, wood. The fabric is cleverly slipped into the frame so that there are no tempting edges to grab, chew, pull and tear.

These canopy-style beds are raised off the floor, which is wonderful for older dogs and dogs in kennels and shelters. The fabric covers are machine washable, and for the fashion conscious dog, they come in different colors. The fabric is also available in a vinyl weave or regular vinyl, which makes the bed perfect for hosing down in multiple dog facilities. For the more discriminating dog, an optional, washable fleece pad is available.

The Kuranda® website (www.kuranda.com) includes great photos and testimonials from people that have bought these innovative beds. You can also read stories from people like me who bought a Kuranda® in the face of destruction. (Apparently, mine is not the only dog that possesses a need to kill his or her bed).

As the owner of two rescued dogs, I understand the plight of the animal shelter. Shelters work hard with limited resources to provide homes, food, places to sleep, and most importantly, love and care to dogs and puppies that need forever homes. They do wonderful work and often provide people with some of the best pets in the world. Apparently, Kuranda® thinks so too. When you log onto www.kuranda.com, you can click on a link to donate a bed at the wholesale price to your favorite shelter. I urge you to go to the website and check out Kuranda® dog beds for your own canine. While you’re there, maybe you can provide a comfortable bed to a dog or puppy while he dreams about his future family.
